(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Scientists from across the globe are making their way to the Holiday Inn in Austin.
They are here for the 8th Annual International Skin Carcinogenesis Conference, jointly held with the Hormel Institute's Frontiers in Cancer Research Symposium.
The goal is to put their heads together, to find new ways to effectively fight cancer
AUSTRALIAN tourism faces one of its toughest years since the September 11 terrorist attacks, says Federal Tourism Minister Martin Ferguson.
In the region yesterday to christen a slice of the Tweed -- the distinctive 'Green Cauldron' -- as one of the country's outstanding natural attractions, the minister's response was to urge Australians to 'support their mates' and holiday at home.
In the lead-up to the Christmas vacation I simply say to Australians at large, you have to start thinking about having a holiday at home, actually trying to look after your mates -- some of whom in the tourism industry are doing it pretty tough at the moment and unfortunately it could get even tougher, said Mr Ferguson.
We are going through yet another tough patch ... when you think about September 11, the threat of SARS, terrorism, and in more recent times the price of oil and the strength of the Aussie dollar, and now we have the softening of the world economy
